[full of it]

must-reads

Posted in Uncategorized by susieyarbs on July 9, 2010

i must once again profess my adoration of jennifer block.  if someone you know is pregnant, march yourself to the nearest bookstore, walk straight past the ten thousand copies of What to Expect (in fact, if you think you can do it without getting arrested, burn them), and buy them Pushed by jennifer block.  actually, maybe that’s the second book you should give them.  first try Your Best Birth by ricki lake and abby epstein, then Pushed.

on her blog (www.pushedbirth.com), she posted a link to a really great editorial in the Boston Globe that looks at their unreasonably high cesarean rates.  they give three key recommendations for reducing the (FORTY PERCENT) rate: limits on labor induction to those that are actually medically necessary, allowance of VBACs (which would involve ignoring ACOG’s ridiculous guidelines), and access to nurse-midwives.

the most recent entry on her blog is great as well, it’s about a study (analysis, rather) that just came out in the american journal of obstetrics and gynecology and some reactions to it.

in other news, i’m 20 weeks today – halfway to baby day!
